We are very happy to announce our marriage on June 10th, 2006.
Leigh Smith is originally from Perth, Western Australia and Jill Woodward from Albany, Georgia in the United States. We met in New York city and have many mutual friends living there. We therefore decided to hold the wedding in NYC.
This site is a way to keep our global friends and family informed of our life together.
With some vacation I had to take, my mate Christie from New York joined me while her boyfriend was working in Frankfurt to visit Prague, Vienna and then Croatia. Before Christie arrived in Prague, I met up with a couple of folks I knew in Prague, Jiri and his friend Susanna, meeting a few of their friends, Glen and Heddi, on mutual friends Honza and Lekka's houseboat. Christie also had a friend in Prague, Adam, who very kindly showed us some of the city sights for a few days.
We then took the train to Vienna, for a short stay. It was quite wet and Christie had some work to attend to, so I checked out a couple of museums. These included a museum of musical instruments and arms and armour, and one devoted to the Austrian modern composer Arnold Schoenberg.
After the passTRESpass project was over but before Leigh came, Debbie and I went to stay with her family on Andros Island. Menusch came from Germany for a few days too. Here's the photos. I also dropped in a few extra photos to Leigh's Crete gallery, so now you can see shots of him too!
I popped over to London for a lovely summer weekend, catching up with a couple of friends, Peter, and another lab-mate from UWA, Bernard and his family. In between, I visited the Imperial War Museum, which including a substantial collection of hardware, has a very affecting exhibition on the Holocaust.
I've been living in New York since December and one of my goals in returning was to meet potential collaborators. In May a really ideal situation just about fell in my lap. I got a call from Randi--another collaborator and our wedding photographer. "Remember Malcolm?" she said. He's a photographer and fellow acquaintance of ours. As it turns out he's been shooting video for the last few years and was in the process of starting a company. He was looking for a partner, someone who specializes in editing. Within a few weeks we registered our business, a partnership, Generator Pictures. Since then, when not traveling, we've been working on our web site and promotional materials. The initial site, which I built myself, is up for viewing now. We'll be replacing it with something more comprehensive in the near future. Please have a look and pass on to anyone who might be interested in our services!
I joined Jill in Athens in the middle of July and after the mandatory visit to the Acropolis (I'm a classical history buff), we took the overnight ferry with Debbie to Crete for some relaxing days travelling to different towns, camping and swimming.
So I have some vacation I must take, and these are three cities I haven't visited before. Planning to meet up with Jiri and Christie, anyone else? Anyone want to stay in Paris while I'm gone?
Matt McDonald, my lab-mate from UWA, was recently able to get over from the UK to hit Paris for the weekend. It was a great chance to see a couple of sites of Paris I hadn't seen, including the Catacombes and visiting the big cemetery of Pere Lachaise.
It was oppressively hot for the first few days, compounding the jet lag. After four or five days the heat broke, making it easier to get out and do project related stuff and fun stuff too. Most of the first week we kept busy with meetings to coordinate our rehearsal schedule and ensure we'd have participants. Here's some snaps from the first week.
