We are very happy to announce our marriage on June 10th, 2006.
Leigh Smith is originally from Perth, Western Australia and Jill Woodward from Albany, Georgia in the United States. We met in New York city in 2002 and have many mutual friends living there. We therefore decided to hold the wedding in NYC.
This site is a way to keep our global friends and family informed of our life together.
Jill will be in Sydney for two days, I'm going to be there longer to collaborate with a mate on a paper for a week or two. Anyone have a room or sublet?
After two years, we'll be back in Australia in April for a family and friends get together! We'd love to see as many of you as possible, so let us all start making plans to rendezvous! We're hoping to do a bit of hiking while we're there if the weather in April permits. We're then following the visit up with jaunts to Melbourne and Tasmania before Jill departs for the U.S.A from Sydney. My next moves are still up in the air, at the moment, my plans end in Sydney, with plans to work with Denis on a paper.
Themes that emerge during our holiday are 1) Art: with visits to the MAC/VAL contemporary art museum in the Paris suburbs, the Centre Pompidou (over three separate trips!) & Versailles--2) Underground: Jill saw the Catacombs (see Leigh's pics from his earlier visit this year), the sewer museum, and spent lots of time on the wonderfully comprehensive underground metro system-- and 3) Fêtes: Christmas lights displays, New Years lights displays, and a cool carny installation inside the Grand Palais. Jill took good advantage of Paris' public bike system, the Velib, and we watched several films at home at Cinema Leigh. We sampled a lot of what Paris has to offer in the way of vegetarian and vegan restaurants and had plenty of home cooking too. And lots of chocolate!
2009 saw Jill returning to New York and starting a new business, Generator Pictures. Leigh's contract with IRCAM in Paris continues until at least March 2010. We were fortunate enough to meet in the spring in New York and Puerto Rico, in the summer in Greece, and this winter in Paris--when we also took a weekend trip to Brugges, Belgium. We have photos of these adventures and more in our photo gallery. Hope you have a sensational holiday and a very happy New Year!
These are some photos of my experiences in Paris, Toulouse and Amsterdam over the last couple of months. I caught the fireworks from the Eiffel Tower for Bastille Day, along with thousands of other Parisians. For the second year, I visited with Juan Jose the Nuit Blanche, an all night exhibition of many galleries and museums in Paris. I also caught a public performance in Toulouse, while there for a meeting of the Quaero project. I was also in Amsterdam to attend Olivia's PhD thesis, meet up with my UvA buddies and play some tunes for the party afterwards.
